Vitamin C

What is Vitamin C ?

Vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) is used in aesthetic dermatology for its many anti-ageing properties and particularly for its antioxidant effects. For best results, it must be stable so that it does not oxidise prior to cutaneous penetration.

What are the attributes
of Vitamin C?

It effectively protects skin from free radicals. These molecules, naturally produced in the human body and in the environment, are toxic and contribute to premature skin ageing.

Furthermore, Vitamin C has an effect on cellular renewal by stimulating epidermal and dermal cells. Regarding outward appearance, it reduces the thickness of the stratum corneum and smooths fine lines and wrinkles. In the dermis, vitamin C revitalises the synthesis of collagen and elastin for improved skin elasticity. It also regulates the synthesis of melanin to prevent spots from appearing.
